Ricardo Alcaíno is the Director for the Equal Opportunity & Discrimination Prevention Office. As Director, Ricardo is responsible for sustaining and strengthening the University's faculty and staff affirmative action personnel program, in addition to having compliance oversight of University non-discrimination policies for staff and faculty. Ricardo oversees the development and distribution of the UCSB Affirmative Action Plan, and works with senior administrators, department chairs, and directors to ensure that UCSB complies with university, State, and Federal policies and regulations regarding affirmative action and equal opportunity in hiring and promoting staff and faculty. Additionally, Ricardo is a Campus liaison to the Office of the President, as well as State and Federal regulatory agencies regarding these matters.

Ricardo has over 25 years of experience in conducting discrimination and harassment complaint investigations, in developing and delivering diversity and sexual harassment education and training, and in developing and implementing affirmative action plans and non-discrimination policies. Ricardo earned an M.P.A., with Pi Alpha Alpha honors, from the University of Southern California, and a B.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from California State University Fullerton. Ricardo previously served as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Employment Practices at California State University Monterey Bay, and also directed and/or staffed similar programs at the City of Santa Cruz and the City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
